Chris Scherer, former Shenango Alumni Society President, invites you to get involved.

Chris Scherer, President of PSU Shenango Alumni Association

Finishing my bachelors degree in nursing at Penn State Shenango opened up some great career opportunities for me in nursing administration. At the time, I felt I needed to find a way to pay back these opportunities somehow. Therefore, since I graduated in 1989, I have been a member of the Penn State Alumni Society and the Golden Lion Society.

About 10 years ago, my daughter, Danielle Schmidt (class of 2003) invited me to join her on the Shenango Alumni Society Board. I joined and have had many opportunities since that time to "give back" to Penn State Shenango. The Shenango Alumni Society has two endowed scholarships that make awards to Shenango campus students every fall. The Society also works closely with the current student body to help support them with projects like THON and their alternative spring break project. The Society also hosts an annual "Friends of Penn State Dinner" on campus presenting a university sports persona as the dinner speaker. In the summer, the Society holds an annual golf outing and a variety of other events to fund its scholarship and program efforts for the campus.

The Shenango Alumni Society is governed by a 25 member board. There are monthly meetings, usually held the second Saturday of the month on campus. Any graduate of Penn State Shenango who is a current member of the Penn State Alumni Association, is considered a member of the Society. There are also associate members who are friends of the campus and university.  If you are interested in getting involved or attending a meeting, please contact Allison Engstrom, director of Alumni Relations and Development at Penn State Shenango. Her office number is 724-983-2907.
