Students can encounter a great deal of stress during the semester (i.e. academic, social, family, work, financial). While most students cope successfully with the demands of university life, for some the pressures can become overwhelming and unmanageable. Students feel alone, isolated, helpless, and even hopeless.

Counseling support exists for Penn State Shenango students who are experiencing difficulty. Student Affairs, Health Services, and the Advising and Career Center are staffed with professional staff members who have master's degrees in counseling and counseling-related fields. Students may also seek assistance from the many local services in our community.


 

Services Available on Campus:

Tony Paglia, MSW, LCSW is PSU Shenango's full-time campus counselor. Tony previously worked for Community Counseling Center in Hermitage, PA where he provided outpatient mental health services to children, teens, adults, families, and couples.

Campus Counseling services are free, confidential, and open to all students struggling with various concerns, including (but not limited to):

  • Test Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Grief & Loss
  • Anger
  • Verbal/Physical/Sexual Abuse
  • Substance Abuse/Dependence
  • Relationship Problems
  • Eating Disorders
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal/Homicidal Thoughts

Students who receive services through Campus Counseling are treated with respect and confidentiality. Students may receive a limited number of free counseling sessions per semester, and the campus counselor will assist students with referrals to appropriate community resources, by request.

Students need to contact the Student Affairs Office to schedule an appointment. (SH 103 or 724-983-2969)  You may also refer students to Jammie Clark (SH 103 or 724-983-2838) to discuss the service.


Type of Counseling Service

Our on-site counselor will provide short term counseling for our students.  He will assist students who are in need of more extensive intervention find continued assistance through outside agencies.
