New Student Orientation (NSO) is designed to introduce students to the academic programs and structure of Penn State. You will meet with faculty and staff, begin to develop goals for your time at Penn State, learn about campus resources, and schedule courses for your first semester - which includes a discussion of the majors, requirements of the program, and an assessment of your placement test results. You will meet individually with an academic adviser to discuss your educational plans.
Before proceeding with your required NSO steps, you must activate your Access Account. This is different from the Friends of Penn State (FPS) account you created to apply to Penn State, and action is required on your part.
Once you activate your Access Account, the following steps are required:
- Take your ALEKS Math Assessment
- Complete your Educational Planning Survey
- Once you have completed your ALEKS, you will receive and e-mail to register for New Student Orientation
- Attend New Student Orientation
If you're applying for financial aid, please be sure to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Penn State recommends that new students complete their FAFSAs before February 15 in order to receive maximum consideration for all aid programs.
The faculty, staff, Division of Undergraduate Studies, and Office of Student Affairs welcome you to Penn State Shenango, and we look forward to spending the day with you!
