PSU 008 - First Year Seminar

PSU 008 is intended to facilitate student's adjustment to the high expectations, demanding workload, increased academic liberties, and other aspects of the transition to college life.  By university-wide standards, PSU 008 is required of any student seeking to complete a degree at Penn State.

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Use the Penn State email and CANVAS technology
  • Adapt and apply appropriate academic strategies to succeed in college, including note and test taking skills, and time management while making a positive connection to the university
  • Understand different learning styles, personality types, and interest areas
  • Demonstrate how to effectively utilize the university library
  • Identify appropriate campus resources in the Penn State system via offices and internet
  • Determine the academic requirements and produce a degree audit for the chosen focus of study
  • Develop and apply networking skills with peers, faculty, and staff
