WPIC to be the voice of the Penn State Shenango Lions

News Talk Radio 790 WPIC will be the voice of Penn State Shenango Men’s Basketball this coming fall. The Shenango campus recently signed a one-year contract with Cumulus Media, which owns WPIC, to air the Lions’ men’s basketball home and several of its away games.
Approximately one hundred new students are seated in the campus's Great Hall wearing various colors of T-shirts.

Penn State Shenango begins 53rd year in the Shenango Valley

Penn State Shenango will welcome new and returning students when fall classes resume on Monday, Aug. 20, and the campus begins its 53rd year in the Shenango Valley. Throughout the spring and summer, the Shenango campus has been busy with renovations and new hires for the upcoming semester.

Lecture series begins with 'Opioid Overdose Awareness' presentation

Penn State Shenango will begin its 2018-19 Lecture Series with a presentation and demonstration on “Opioid Overdose Awareness” at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, in Lecture Hall 223/Art Gallery. Shenango Campus Nursing Program Coordinator Dr. Joan Humphrey and Nursing Instructor Amy Higgins will facilitate the event.

Retired mathematics professor creates scholarship at Penn State Shenango

John R. Garell, who taught mathematics at Penn State Shenango for 33 years, has recently continued his efforts in support of local students. Garell was one of the original six faculty members of the then-Penn State Shenango Valley campus, teaching mathematics, computer science and statistics, as well as running the Computer Lab from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. Through a gift of $30,000, he has created the John R. Garell Renaissance Scholarship at Penn State Shenango.

Certified Recovery Specialist program available to recovering addicts

Do you have a history of addiction recovery and want to help others? Penn State Shenango will host “Certified Recovery Specialist Training,” a Penn State Beaver Continuing Education course, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, beginning Oct. 6 and ending Dec. 15, in 108 Sharon Hall in downtown Sharon.

Author of ‘Mrs. Sherlock Holmes’ to present at campus lecture series Sept. 26

Penn State Shenango will continue its 2018-19 Lecture Series with a presentation by special guest and author Brad Ricca, who will talk about his most recent book Mrs. Sherlock Holmes—the shocking and amazing true story of Grace Humiston, lawyer, detective, and first woman U.S. District Attorney, who took on the well-known missing persons case of 18-year-old Ruth Cruger. The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26 in Lecture Hall 223/Art Gallery.
