Shenango drama club to present 'How the Grouch Saved Christmas' Dec. 4-6

The Penn State Shenango Drama Club will be presenting an original musical, 'How the Grouch Saved Christmas,' designed to appeal to children of all ages the weekend of Dec. 4-6. The show playfully weaves pop cultural references to The Minions, Star Wars, princesses, Legos, and much more into a story that is ultimately heartwarming. The musical will launch with an evening performance at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Penn State Shenango Auditorium. There will also be two matinee performances at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 and 6.

Penn State Shenango Faculty Lecture Series to continue with presentation Dec. 3

Penn State Shenango will continue its 2015-2016 Faculty Lecture Series with Diane Kuharsky, instructor in biology, who will speak at noon on Dec. 3 in Room 105 of Sharon Hall, located on Penn Avenue in downtown Sharon. The title of her lecture is “Fall Risk Assessment and Prevention Strategies for Individuals with Compromised Balance Stability.” The event is free and open to the public.

HopeCAT director to speak at Penn State Shenango commencement ceremony

Penn State Shenango will hold its fall 2015 commencement ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the Shenango campus auditorium with a reception immediately following. Jo Anne Carrick, campus director, will confer baccalaureate and associate degrees on 58 graduating students. This year, Penn State Shenango welcomes Tom Roberts, executive director of the Hope Center for Arts & Technology (HopeCAT) as its guest speaker.

Fourth annual THON spaghetti dinner to be held in January

On Jan. 22, 2016, Penn State Shenango will host its fourth annual THON spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. in the campus auditorium. The event is sponsored by Penn State Shenango benefiting THON and various local restaurants. All proceeds will support kids with cancer. Additionally, individuals may make a contribution to pediatric cancer at www.thon.org. Penn State Shenango’s code is #167.

New baccalaureate degree program offered at Penn State Shenango

Penn State Shenango, in collaboration with the Penn State campuses of Beaver, Fayette, Greater Allegheny and New Kensington, has been granted joint authorization to deliver the bachelor of science in Project and Supply Chain Management program. The new four-year major will begin in fall 2016.

Penn State Shenango will continue its 2015-16 Faculty Lecture Series with Instructor in Nursing Maureen Dunn who will speak at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Community Library of the Shenango Valley on the corner of East State St. and Shenango Ave. in in downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania. The title of her lecture is “Buzzed or Drunk? Are you impaired to drive?" The event is free and open to the public.

A discussion on 'Project and Supply Chain Management: In Business and In Health'

Penn State Shenango will host “Project and Supply Chain Management: In Business and In Health,” a panel discussion about the real world of supply chain management, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the campus auditorium located on Shenango Avenue in downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania. Representatives from FedEx Corporation, UPMC, and JMC Steel Group will comprise the panel of experts. A networking opportunity with light refreshments will follow the discussion. This event is free and open to the public.

Shenango students make learning fun during after school program

Penn State Shenango’s second-year occupational therapy assistant (OTA) students are leading an after school program “Printing Fun” with 19 West Hill Elementary School children in kindergarten and first grade. This annual 6-week OTA service learning project, which began at the end of January, is held on Wednesdays from 2:45 until 5 p.m. at the Sharon School District’s elementary school.

Shenango hosts marketing competition for local high school students

Penn State Shenango will host the first of three parts of its inaugural Marketing Competition for high school students at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 20 in the campus’ auditorium. The event is being held in conjunction with the Greater Sharon Associates and its Downtown Sharon Spring Fling. Local high school teams of two to five students, including e-Academy at LindenPointe, Farrell, Hickory, Lakeview, Mercer County Career Center, and West Middlesex, will compete to see who can create and present the best integrated marketing plan for this year’s Sharon Spring Fling.

Upcycled art contest to show children how to create treasure from trash

Does your child enjoy creating things? Does he or she like using recycled “trash” and making it into a treasure? Penn State Shenango is gearing up for its inaugural Earth Fest Upcycled Art Contest, which is being held in conjunction with this year’s annual Earth Day event to be held on Saturday, April 9, at the downtown Sharon campus.
