Student Organizations

The Shenango campus encourages students to expand their interests and activities by joining clubs and organizations. Extracurricular activities are a vital part of the total educational process and enrich the student's campus experience.

Below is a list of the current clubs that are in operation at the Shenango campus. If you believe there is a club or organization that would be a great addition to the campus, please stop by Sharon Hall 103 to learn more about creating your own club!

Here is a list of current clubs and organizations on the Shenango campus:

Student Government Association (SGA): One purpose of student participation in government is to train for the role of a citizen in the community. A sense of responsibility and concern on the part of each student is promoted through SGA participation. The Student Government Association acts as a liaison among the students, faculty, and administration.

The Student Government Association (SGA)  is a representative voice of the student body in the campus’ governance system.

Association's responsibilities

  • Provide a forum for student concerns
  • Oversee funding for on-campus clubs and organizations
  • Implement recreational and entertainment programs

Personal benefits

  • Develop leadership and management skills
  • Gain experience that is transferable to the workplace
  • Voice opinions on issues

SGA consists of representatives elected from the Penn State Shenango student body.  Freshman, sophomore, overall representatives and senators at large represent the academic classes. These representatives maintain a direct link with students and campus faculty and administrators. The SGA elected officials include president, vice president, and secretary. The SGA treasurer is a position appointed by the Student Affairs staff.

Elections are conducted in the fall and spring, at which time senators and executive board members are elected to represent students.

Meetings are open to all Shenango students. However, you must be an SGA member to vote and you must be on the agenda to speak at the meeting. Meetings are held on Mondays at common hour.

SGA Activities

SGA Activities are designed to offer a wide variety of activities to the entire campus community.

Activities include

  • Support the many and varied campus clubs and organizations through funding appropriations
  • Greet new students through various welcoming activities
  • Conduct Student Government Association elections
  • Help to select campus entertainment
  • Participate on various campus committees
  • Sponsor activities to promote campus clubs and organizations
  • Sponsor various campus events to meet student needs (i.e. meet and greets, free pizza days, Back to School Bash and Pre Exam Jam)
  • Oversee the PAW student discount program

For more information about getting involved in SGA, contact Student Affairs.

Gardening Club (AG): The purpose of the Gardening Club is to educate students of the potential positive impact that students could have on the environment and to aid the local community by providing assistance to the local Community Food Warehouse through donations from the campus garden.

Drama Club: The Drama Club exists as a means to educate, entertain and celebrate theater as well as culture, and endorse the performing arts among Shenango students and the community.

History Club: The History Club provides members with a forum for further learning and discussion of history; provides opportunities for exploring history at historical sites; and promotes an understanding of history on campus and in the community.

International Cultures Club: The purpose of this club is to create an awareness of the international cultures present around campus and in the Shenango Valley. Through events and get-togethers on and off campus, the International Cultures Club is committed to promote education, respect, tolerance, and unity among all at Penn State Shenango.

Occupational Therapy Club (OT): The purpose of the Occupational Therapy Club is to educate the populace to the benefits and realities the OT profession has to offer; to provide access for information to prospective students; to provide a forum for students, faculty, parents, and professionals for discussing the problems and concerns of everyday college life; and to promote academics and moral standards of those students in the OT Assistant program.

S. T. E. M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Club: This club strives to expand students’ knowledge and involvement of science, math, engineering and technology on our campus. The goals of the club are to promote students’ active involvement and participation in co-curricular S.T.E.M.-based activities, attract, recruit and retain more students in the S.T.E.M. fields, and help form a S.T.E.M. community on campus.

Student Veterans Association (SVA): The purpose of SVA is to provide an opportunity for student veterans to learn what they have available to them as a student veteran, in a variety of forms, including those not available in the classroom. They also strive to provide a forum to student veterans and the campus community for the discussion of veteran’s needs and its relevance to current events.
