As lifelong residents of the Shenango Valley and community volunteers in many organizations, Henry and Dorothy (Dottie) Bieber shared a vision for a brighter future for Shenango Valley and those who live there.

The Biebers understood the significance of higher education. They both earned Masters degrees and drew on these in numerous ways to help the community. Mrs. Bieber taught in the Farrell Area School District, was superintendent of Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church in Sharon, and taught health education at Planned Parenthood.

Mrs. Bieber volunteered for many community organizations. She was a lifelong Girl Scout and received the Juliette Gordon Low Award, the highest honor. Recently, she received the Penn State Shenango Time, Treasure, and Talent Award, which recognizes an individual for generosity and volunteering efforts in the Shenango campus community.

In addition to building a successful insurance business, Mr. Bieber served as a member of the Sharon School Authority and Clerk of Session at their church. He also volunteered in many community organizations, plus was an avid fisherman and golfer. Henry and Dottie were both president of the Sharon Rotary Club, the first couple to share this distinction.

In 2005, Mrs. Bieber created the Henry and Dorothy Bieber Trustee Scholarship. Since the creation of this fund, more than 75 students have benefited from the scholarship, awarding over $78,000. This scholarship will continue to support local students attending Penn State.

This scholarship lifts local students and helps them achieve their goals for a brighter future, self-sufficiency, and more fulfilling lives. These advantages will carry over not just for the students but our community.

Give to the Scholarship

Established in 1965, the Shenango campus is located on 13 acres set in downtown Sharon, PA. Sharon is in western Pennsylvania, near the Ohio border, and is a part of the rust belt. Shenango is the only urban campus among the 20 Penn State Commonwealth campuses, and more than 93 percent of students receive some form of financial assistance.

On behalf of the Bieber family and Penn State, thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of a contribution to this scholarship and helping these students achieve their goals through higher education and building a better future for them and our community.
