This year’s senior high school students will be guaranteed a $3,000 scholarship to attend Penn State Shenango, and the only qualification is that they must have a high school 3.0 grade-point average.
Penn State Shenango will begin its 2015-16 Faculty Lecture Series with Lavarr McBride who teaches for the Penn State Shenango, Beaver, and New Kensington campuses in their administration of justice programs. McBride will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, in Sharon Hall, room 105 located on Penn Avenue in downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania. The title of his lecture is “Through a Crime Victim’s Eyes: Helping Them Find a New Normal.” The event is free and open to the public.
Penn State Shenango has been ranked in the Top 20 colleges and universities in the Northeast in the category of "Best Bang for the Buck," according to the most recent rankings conducted by Washington Monthly. Among 402 schools included in the listing, the Shenango campus was ranked No. 16.
Penn State Shenango will hold its fourth annual Dr. Jane A. Williams Memorial 5K Run/1.5 Mile Walk beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Shenango campus located in downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania. The event is in honor of Williams, who was employed at the Shenango campus for 25 years before dying after a brief illness.
Penn State Shenango will hold auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 12 for its holiday play “How the Grouch Saved Christmas,” which is an original musical to be directed by Jeanne Zingale, Penn State Shenango Drama Club advisor and instructor in theatre.
On Aug. 22, Penn State Shenango will kick off its 50th Anniversary with a double celebration. A Community Open House outside on the campus lawn from 3 to 5 p.m. will include live music by The Bootleggers, children's activities, refreshments, storytime, a community art show, tours of the campus, and more. This event is free and open to the public. An Alumni and Friends event, to be held from 5 to 8 p.m., will include live music by Grant Street Exit, dinner, tours of the campus, a video montage of photos from the past 50 years, and a Penn State football raffle ticket drawing. There is a nominal $10 fee for the evening event.
