SHARON, Pa. — Patrick Connacher, physical therapist assistant student at Penn State Shenango, was awarded the 2024 Donna Boucher Award by the Northwest District of the American Physical Therapy Association – Pennsylvania (APTA-PA).
According to the organization’s website, Donna Boucher was a long-standing and contributing member of the Northwest District who believed strongly in supporting students preparing for a career in physical therapy and served as a mentor to many.
In her letter of recommendation, Associate Teaching Professor and PTA Program Coordinator Gizelle Dean mentioned that she looks for students who exemplify the core values of the program and present themselves in a professional manner while also earning high academic achievement.
“I knew immediately when I met Patrick that he would be an asset to the program and the field of physical therapy,” Dean said. “Patrick demonstrates professionalism, work ethic, and knowledge to excel in the field.”
Connacher learned of his award during a Northwest District meeting in the fall of 2024 and was formally presented with a plaque in April. Donna Boucher Award winners also receive financial support to purchase required materials for their program, and to help cover travel expenses for professional meetings and clinical experiences.
"It is an honor to be a part of such an amazing class and devoted instructors. Their guidance has truly shaped my journey, and I’m grateful to be recognized for this award,” said Connacher. “Being only the second to receive this award in over 20 years at Penn State Shenango is incredibly humbling and motivates me to continue striving for excellence in our profession."
