Students, welcome back

A message to students and families

Penn State Shenango is ready for you! The health and safety of our community is our first priority, and we would like to share some of the strategies we have put into place to have a successful fall.

Students and families,

On behalf of the Penn State Shenango community, I want to welcome you to the fall 2020 semester.

This will be an academic year unlike any other in history. Classrooms will look different and the way we teach and learn is evolving; but our core values and mission as an institution will not change. This is not the scenario we hoped for, but if we can work together as a community, we can ensure that every Penn State Shenango student has a chance to be successful this fall.

Our top concern is the safety of students, faculty, and staff. There will be changes this year – and some may be inconvenient – but every action taken is to keep you safe and to do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19. I want to share changes we have made before you arrive on campus:

  • Our physical plant department has been working tirelessly this summer to clean campus and to implement safety changes in our facilities. Students are required to wear face coverings in buildings at all times and outdoors when it is not possible to practice social distancing, and will honor physical distancing requirements in classrooms and other campus locations.
  • Students are asked to complete a daily symptom checker on the Penn State Go app. Students enrolled for in-person courses or plan to be on campus will complete the symptom checker for an indication if you are clear to visit campus.
  • It is critical to check your Penn State email daily on Outlook.
  • The Virus Info and Keep Learning websites offer important FAQs and resources.
  • Faculty have retooled the classroom experience to deliver the highest quality learning experience in the safest manner. Courses will be delivered in a variety of settings, including: remote learning, learning on campus, or a combination of delivery methods.
  • The University is committed to assist with technology needs so every student can be successful. Please reach out if you do not have technology to complete your coursework.
  • Our student affairs staff have been designing student life experiences to keep stud\ents safe, while allowing students to build friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

Penn State University will continue to evolve and monitor the pandemic and its effects. Penn State has a thorough testing and tracing process in place for fall to protect our community.

This is not the situation we hoped for, but I feel certain that every member of the faculty and staff are well prepared for your arrival. To that end, WE ARE committed to give every student the best opportunity for success. If you have concerns or feel unsupported in your goals, please do not hesitate to call my office at 724-983-2900.

Best wishes on a successful semester,

Dr. Jo Anne Carrick
