Quentin Lee Jr. - Sharon Community Development Corporation Internship

SHARON, Pa. — Quentin Lee Jr., a business major in the management and marketing track, is a first-year student at Shenango spending the spring 2025 semester as an intern at the Sharon Community Development Corporation (SCDC).

In this Q&A, Quentin shares his duties and responsibilities at the SCDC, and discusses how someone who is early in their college journey can get the most out of an internship experience.

Begin Q&A:

Q: How did you learn about the internship at the Sharon Community Development Corporation?

A: One of my high school teachers heard of the opportunity and immediately threw me in the applicant conversation.

Q: What is your role at the SCDC, and what projects are you tasked with as part of your internship?

A: As the marketing intern, I tend to focus on the social media aspects of anything Sharon. My tasks include promoting the local businesses and events in any way I can, compiling our weekly newsletter of local information to the public, and finding the best ways to share the information of anything we have upcoming, including concerts, parades, etc. I am currently working on implementing more information to our website (sharonpa.com) and shouting out everything the local businesses are doing to get them the recognition they work for.

Q: What classroom experiences at Shenango have prepared you for your roles at this internship?

A: Being a first-year student, I haven’t had too many marketing classes yet, but I have been prepared through various past ventures as well as the overall attentiveness I need to have with task management. This is something I believe is important with any and everything, and is one thing I learned throughout high school and continued to brush up on when transitioning into college. I learned how to use my time effectively and plan out my tasks to ensure they all are complete in a timely manner and to my best ability.

Q: What are the key lessons you’ve learned so far during your internship?

A: I’ve learned that there is a lot of opportunity and life in the city of Sharon. Through my internship, I have been able to meet the business owners and have been a part of many events within the community which helped to show that everyone here is very supportive and driven, you just have to be willing to talk to them and they’d love to talk to you. I find that everyone's story is completely different and as a kid who always wanted to own a business, I find the stories of the business owners to be motivational and they drive me to become better at who I am and keep going, even when I may not know what’s next.

Q: How can you apply your real-world experiences to your remaining classes at Shenango?

A: I can implement the knowledge I’ve gained in social media marketing as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills into my future assignments and projects.

Q: What career(s) are you interested in after graduation, and has your internship experience helped you towards reaching those goals?

A: After graduation, I would like to continue to grow my car detailing business and become a social media manager of business accounts. This way I can continue to make my own work schedule and take on as much or as little work as I’d like. I would love to invest in the younger generation as I get older in the hopes that I can help them achieve their dreams because I believe if you pair mentoring and potential funding with a driven, young mind, anything is possible.
