Faculty and staff Scoop 'N Paint fundraiser to support Shenango scholarship

The Penn State Shenango Heart of Shenango committee will host its inaugural “Scoop ‘N Paint” event at 5:30 p.m. April 21 at Cravings on Shenango Avenue in downtown Sharon. The cost of the event is $40 per person and includes all painting supplies, as well as two scoops of Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream. Ed Hallahan, Shenango campus art instructor, will teach individuals the correct technique of painting, and participants will leave the class with a beautiful painted sunflower.

Penn State Shenango to host 50th anniversary Blue & White Gala

On March 31, Penn State Shenango will host its 50th anniversary Blue & White Gala. The event will include remarks by Penn State President Eric Barron and keynote speaker Penn State Women’s Volleyball Coach Russell “Russ” Rose. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., including a cash bar, followed by dinner, presentations, a silent auction, and live music from the '80s cheese band Velveeta.

Time capsule unveils glimpse of Shenango campus’ history

It was 45 years ago this past fall that a copper-clad time capsule containing contemporary papers and items was placed in the then-new science building, which was being erected on Penn State's Shenango Valley campus. David Goldberg, then-president of the Penn State Shenango Valley Advisory Board, placed the time capsule in the cornerstone of the science building. On March 28, Campus Director Jo Anne Carrick extracted this same time capsule from the campus’ science building as members of the Student Government Association and Penn State Shenango Advisory Board looked on.

Earth Fest 2016 to feature live music, kids’ activities, artists and more

Adults and children of all ages are invited to join the fun as Penn State Shenango holds Earth Fest 2016 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the campus in downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania. The event, which offers free admission and is open to the public, will include live music and entertainment, educational presentations, children’s activities, a local artists’ market, Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream, and information from sustainability-minded local organizations and businesses. Food and coffee from Haitian Sensation, The Bluegrass Kitchen and AVI will be available to purchase.

Upcycled art contest to show children how to create treasure from trash

Does your child enjoy creating things? Does he or she like using recycled “trash” and making it into a treasure? Penn State Shenango is gearing up for its inaugural Earth Fest Upcycled Art Contest, which is being held in conjunction with this year’s annual Earth Day event to be held on Saturday, April 9, at the downtown Sharon campus.

Shenango hosts marketing competition for local high school students

Penn State Shenango will host the first of three parts of its inaugural Marketing Competition for high school students at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 20 in the campus’ auditorium. The event is being held in conjunction with the Greater Sharon Associates and its Downtown Sharon Spring Fling. Local high school teams of two to five students, including e-Academy at LindenPointe, Farrell, Hickory, Lakeview, Mercer County Career Center, and West Middlesex, will compete to see who can create and present the best integrated marketing plan for this year’s Sharon Spring Fling.

Shenango students make learning fun during after school program

Penn State Shenango’s second-year occupational therapy assistant (OTA) students are leading an after school program “Printing Fun” with 19 West Hill Elementary School children in kindergarten and first grade. This annual 6-week OTA service learning project, which began at the end of January, is held on Wednesdays from 2:45 until 5 p.m. at the Sharon School District’s elementary school.

A discussion on 'Project and Supply Chain Management: In Business and In Health'

Penn State Shenango will host “Project and Supply Chain Management: In Business and In Health,” a panel discussion about the real world of supply chain management, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the campus auditorium located on Shenango Avenue in downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania. Representatives from FedEx Corporation, UPMC, and JMC Steel Group will comprise the panel of experts. A networking opportunity with light refreshments will follow the discussion. This event is free and open to the public.
