Five finalists will compete in the live “Shark Tank”-style competition at 5 p.m. on March 24. Community members are invited to tune in on Penn State Shenango’s YouTube page. This event is in collaboration with sponsors the eCenter @ LindenPointe and Penn-Northwest Development Corporation.
As of March 1 (the conclusion of the universal required re-testing period), the University is conducting random testing of between 1% and 2% of the University’s population of students and employees living, learning or working on campus as well as those who access campus.

Penn State is planning a phased return over the summer semester to a full on-campus learning environment for fall 2021. The University’s priorities continue to be the health and well-being of its students, faculty, staff and local communities, and the plans for expanded in-person classes have the flexibility built in to quickly respond to changing pandemic conditions, if necessary.
During the first two weeks of in-person learning (Feb. 15 to Feb. 26), Penn State will conduct universal COVID-19 testing of all students who are taking in-person classes or who are taking a fully remote or online course load while living in Centre County or within a 20-mile radius of a Penn State campus.
Assistant Professor Travis Milburn will host a lecture titled “Bulletproofing our schools: Exploring the connection between school security products, race, class, and school violence,” on Feb. 11. Two guest speakers will join Milburn to discuss how consumption, security and policy converge in educational spaces.
Residents of Pennsylvania rural communities often face different health challenges than those who live in cities. Rural county physicians like Dr. George Garrow see the challenges first-hand. Garrow is the chief medical officer of The Primary Health Network, a federally qualified health center based in Mercer County.
Penn State Shenango alumnus William E. Casey has made a $100,000 gift to endow the Casey Miller Bridge to Success Fund in Memory of Thomas A. Casey, Donald K. Miller, Gary R. Miller and Janet Miller Casey. Casey’s gift will provide emergency support for students with unforeseen financial difficulties while commemorating late family members who also attended Penn State.
Penn State Shenango’s VenturePointe Incubator and the eCenter@LindenPointe are holding the annual “What’s Your Big Idea Challenge?” on March 24. All Pennsylvania residents, students, alumni, entrepreneurs and innovators can submit their innovative ideas to enter the Penn State Startup Challenge.
Human development and family studies graduate Kaitlin Winslow joined Primary Health Network’s human resources department for her capstone project, an emotional-intelligence lunch-and-learn series for managers across the state. The internship concluded with a job offer for a full-time position at PHN.
