Penn State Shenango Assistant Teaching Professor of Engineering Matthew Caputo recently introduced his freshmen students to the “real world” of engineering with a tour of the city of Sharon’s Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The Student Startup Showcase featured Penn State student startups which had participated in the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program’s (PennTAP) Inc.U Competition or Invent Penn State’s Summer Founders program. Each of the student companies received $2,000 to help move their startups forward.
Jennifer Jewell, board certified specialist in geriatric physical therapy, was awarded the 2019 Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association’s (PPTA) Geriatric Special Interest Group Award of Excellence. She received the award in October at the PPTA conference at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, Pennsylvania.
Helping seniors stay healthy in order to live full, productive lives is just one commonality between Penn State Shenango’s Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program and LIFE (Living Independence For the Elderly)-Northwestern Pennsylvania (LIFE-NWPA). This fall, LIFE-NWPA and the OTA faculty and students at the Shenango campus began collaborating on what has become a beneficial partnership for both entities.
Penn State Shenango Advisory Board Member and Superintendent of Sharon School District Michael J. Calla will give the commencement address at the 2019 Penn State Shenango Fall Commencement Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in the campus auditorium. Jo Anne Carrick, campus director and chief academic officer, will confer baccalaureate and associate degrees on the graduating students.
Penn State Shenango will host a program titled “Breaking the Silence” from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the campus’ Lecture Hall Gallery. The community is invited to this inaugural event to unmask one of society’s hidden secrets — intimate partner violence.

The Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP) at Penn State is looking for undergraduate entrepreneurs from any Penn State campus to compete in the 2020 Inc.U Competition. Six finalist teams will earn a spot on “The Investment,” a production of WPSU-TV, giving them a chance to pitch their company for a share of $30,000 in funding. The 2020 Inc.U Competition submission deadline is Feb. 7.
On Feb. 3, all students, faculty and staff members at every Penn State campus location will receive an email to take the Penn State Community Survey to share their attitudes and experiences of community, diversity and inclusion at Penn State. Every 100 survey takers will have a chance to win an Amazon or Starbucks gift card.
