Shenango's 2019 Earth Fest to feature music, sustainability-themed activities

The Penn State Shenango Earth Fest, which has become a popular annual event in the Shenango Valley for adults and children of all ages, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6 at the campus' Great Hall and Atrium in downtown Sharon. The festival, which is free and open to the community, will include live music and entertainment, an educational presentation on sustainability by author/journalist Seamus McGraw, children’s activities, a local artists’ market, Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream, and information from sustainability-minded local organizations and businesses.

Shenango Staff Advisory Committee continues to provide students a helping hand

The Penn State Shenango Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) has once again come up with a strategy to help students in need. This spring, SAC’s Student Focus Subcommittee established “The Nittany Nook,” a grab-and-go type food pantry located in two areas on campus: Sharon Hall room 207 and the Lartz Memorial Library. The Nook provides students with instant meals and snacks while they are on campus. In addition to addressing students’ hunger needs, the subcommittee is also providing information on community resources.

Penn State Shenango hosts child abuse prevention program on campus

Penn State Shenango’s Human Development and Family Studies department, in conjunction with the Mercer County Children’s Advocacy Center and the Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission, recently hosted Stewards of Children, an evidence-informed, child abuse prevention program, on the local Penn State campus.

PHN Charitable Foundation funds Shenango scholarship and athletics program

Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation recently made two substantial contributions to Penn State Shenango -- one, a $30,000 gift to establish an Open Doors Scholarship at the Shenango campus in support of the University-wide campaign “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence,” and the second, a $15,000 donation in support the campus’ athletics program. Through a 2:1 match by the University, the $30,000 donation will increase the scholarship to a $90,000 endowment for the local campus.
