Fall commencement to be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Penn State Shenango

Penn State Shenango Advisory Board member and retired Superintendent of Mohawk School District Kathleen Kwolek will give the commencement address at the 2018 Penn State Shenango Fall Commencement Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Shenango campus Auditorium. Jo Anne Carrick, campus director and chief academic officer, will confer baccalaureate and associate degrees on the graduating students.

Sharon Regional teams up with Shenango to provide athletic training services

Sharon Regional Medical Center has teamed up with Penn State Shenango’s Athletics program to provide comprehensive athletic training services for the campus’ new men’s basketball team and women’s volleyball team. This past fall, through Sharon Regional’s Sports Medicine program, certified athletic trainer Deb Bornes began working with the Penn State Shenango Lions to provide professional services during the Lions’ home practices and games.

Two local organizations partner to establish scholarship for Shenango students

The College Club of Sharon and the Penn State Shenango Alumni Society have announced the creation of a $47,000 Open Doors Scholarship at Penn State Shenango, which offered a 2:1 match on endowment principal from the University. The scholarship is part of the University’s Pathway to Success Summer Start (PaSSS) program to help students overcome the obstacles that can hinder their path to graduation.

Bernstine family endows Open Doors Scholarship at Penn State Shenango

The Bernstine family has made a $30,000 family contribution to Penn State University to establish the Sam, Pam, Aaron, Ilia and Dierks Bernstine Open Doors Scholarship at the Shenango campus. The donation is part of the University-wide campaign “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence” and will leverage a 2:1 University match, increasing the fund to $90,000.

Shenango faculty introduce interprofessional collaboration to their classrooms

Innovative pedagogy, interdisciplinary cooperation, and an awareness of the changing dynamics of working in the healthcare field, were the impetus behind two Penn State Shenango faculty members in nursing and human development and family studies (HDFS) teaming up to create an interprofessional collaboration between their academic disciplines.

5K raises over $17,000 for Shenango campus student scholarship fund

The seventh annual Dr. Jane Williams 5K run and 1.5 mile walk had a total of 20 runners and 32 walkers cross the finish line on a warm, humid October morning. The first overall finishers in the 5K run were Chase Waldscmidt from New Castle, Pennsylvania, and Linda Enterline from Jamestown, Pennsylvania. The first overall finishers of the 1.5 mile walk were a mother and son team, Rachel and Vincent Singer from New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.

Penn State Laureate to speak on 'Art and Politics: The Case of Corrado Cagli'

The problematic and contradictory relationship between the art of Italian painter, sculptor and muralist Corrado Cagli and the fascist government that supported him will be explored in an upcoming presentation by Penn State Laureate John Champagne at 12:15 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 1 in Penn State Shenango's Lecture Hall room 222/223. The event is free and open to the public.

Author of 'The Power of Pragmatic Passion' to present at Shenango

Joe Battista, author, professional speaker, and success coach, will speak at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Penn State Shenango Auditorium in downtown Sharon. He will discuss and provide insight into his new book, "The Power of Pragmatic Passion: 7 Common Sense Principles for Achieving Personal & Professional Success." The event is free and open to the public.
